Freedom Fest Memorial weekend

Oldsmar, Florida - The Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce proudly announces that our fifth annual Freedom Fest celebration will be held on State Street in Oldsmar Memorial Day weekend May 24, 25 and 26.

Freedom Fest is presented to honor our first responders - police, fire, fire rescue and our active and retired military. There were will be a special motorcycle show on Saturday honoring bikes in each of these categories.

Assistant principal denied service dog at school

Tampa, Florida -- The Americans with Disabilities Act says service dogs are working dogs and are free to go anywhere. But when an assistant principal in Hillsborough County asked the district if she could bring her service dog to school their answer was, "No."

Agnes Tanon-Rodenbach, 47, says she spent five months going through the proper channels to get permission to bring her dog to work with her, but the district's answer is still no. 

Rodenbach is on medical leave for a disability she describes as invisible but says is very real.

Air pollution precaution issued for Hillsborough County

Tampa, Florida --  The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County is issuing an Air Pollution precaution due to elevated levels of the pollutant ozone.

This precautionary statement is effective immediately Friday, May 17. 

Elevated concentrations have been observed at multiple air monitoring stations and there is still a potential for levels to reach the unhealthy for sensitive groups.

This precaution is based on elevated concentrations of ozone observed at multiple air monitoring stations throughout the day.

Tampa, Florida -- Local up and coming actors will have a terrific chance to work with Broadway and television professionals this summer at the Straz Center’s Patel Conservatory. Auditions will be held for the summer intensives “Little Shop of Horrors” and “A Straz Center Revue” this Saturday (May 18) beginning at 1 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

Scott insists "no" to Amazon jobs is not political

Tampa, Florida -- Gov. Rick Scott announces positive jobs numbers, but is facing questions about one jobs decision we learned about in the past 24 hours.

Scott announced new unemployment numbers at an event in Tampa on Friday morning.

For the second straight month, Florida is below the national average and now at 7.2 percent. That's the lowest it's been since September of 2008. 

But the governor is facing questions about one jobs decision we learned about in the past 24 hours. He declined a deal with Amazon.com to bring 2,500 jobs to the Sunshine State.

Carrollwood, Florida - The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District) invites the public to comment on proposed minimum guidance levels for Lakes Rogers and Raleigh in Hillsborough County at a public workshop on Wednesday, May 29. 

The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Walker Middle School Cafeteria, located at 8282 North Mobley Road in Odessa.
