Farrell Files: All malcontents are created equal

As the occupy Wall Street folks continue to voice their displeasure with corporate greed in cities around the county, including Tampa, the tea party head honchos took to the air waves last week to distance their cause, labeling the occupy folks as un-American, unemployed and lazy. 

As much as the tea party doesn't want to be joined at the hip with the Occupy Wall Street group... they are.  

They even share a label.  They are both malcontents.

Tampa, Florida -- The staff at Plant High School spent this morning preparing to help students cope with the sudden loss of beloved teacher, Mrs. Nancy Farnsworth.

"It's hard.  You want to be a strong leader," said Principal Robert Nelson.  "My number one goal is to take care of my community, my staff, my students and unfortunately deal with this loss."

County announces graduation days for local schools

County announces graduation days for local schools

The Hillsborough County School Board announced it has approved the 2012 schedule for graduation ceremonies.  

All regular high school and adult school graduations will take place at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall.  Exceptional center, career center, and virtual school graduation locations are included with other details in the second table below.

This year’s Guavaween street party celebration will take place on Oct. 29. The all-day event will take place from 3 p.m. - Until.

Unlike last year’s event, this year the City of Ybor will be bringing back the street parade. The parade will be an awesome family-friendly event. 

The night festivities are for adults only and features musical performers, an array of club parties, and costume contest up and down the Ybor strip.

Jesuit holds off Lakewood 33-19

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Jesuit did just enough to hold off the terrific Lakewood passing duo of Tracy Johnson and Rodney Adams.

Johnson connected with Adams for two touchdowns, but Jesuit maintained a constant lead and held off Lakewood 33-19.

The win improved Jesuit to 7-0 in the massive nine-team district and can cap a perfect district season next Friday with a win over Gibbs.

Nick Otheguy gave Jesuit a 7-0 lead with a 75-yard interception return for a score.  Then Tommy Eveld threw a 20-yard score to Travis Johnson to stretch the Tigers lead to 14-0.
